When is the best period to travel?
In terms of weather, Italy, is a mild country and therefore there is no “prohibitive” period where you shouldn’t travel. As recommendation we would suggest the shoulder months so Spring and Fall just to avoid the overcrowded situation in summer save some money as cheaper price but still enjoying at best the trip.
Spring
Travelling in spring is ideal. The weather is at its best, warmth starts to build up and on some sunny days you would actually feel to be a summer day. It is not crowded with tourist and because in most places is low/new season you will benefit from spotless facilities and cheaper prices. In Sicily for example the locals start to swim and enjoy the beach from mid-May so if you are also desperate to dunk in the water that could be your period.
Summer
This is the season where there is no limitation. All the activities started all the excursion are running the hotels are full the restaurants are booming. In August the cities get emptier because of the locals leaving for their holiday season.
Fall
This is the season exactly like spring for enjoyment of the territory, however it is here intresting to explore the activities like hiking in the mountains and you can definitely swim in the sea.
Winter
The Weather in winter is not at its best anywhere but most certainly you can use it to explore the winter activities. Also museums and attraction will be without ques and prices in most cases are extremely lower than the summer but still with the high level of delight. Furthermore many accommodation would organise New Years Eve packages that will let you use the facilities but also explore the surrounding.
No need to mention that Italy is also one of the best destination for the winters sports. The Alps will have a number of different places and activities to offer. But please do not forget also Abruzzo and Roccaraso, or Sicily. Have you ever ski on top of an active Volcano (Etna). With over 3000 msl the fun is guaranteed.

What to do
